Early childhood Programme
Join OUR ‘KNOW ME EAT ME’ PRogramme with your Centre!
Our ‘Know Me Eat Me’ programme will have your tamariki cheering for broccoli, requesting healthy food at home and telling you who grew your carrot. The Te Whariki linked programme has children exploring the food we eat, where it comes from, why it is good for us and most importantly – what it tastes like. Your educators will help the children read interactive stories, carry out hands on science investigations and cook and prepare their own food. They will build their confidence around making healthy choices and test their taste buds with many new flavours!
Our programme is designed to help centres achieve their Healthy Heart Awards and implement a consistent long term focus on health and nutrition that’s relevant to New Zealand tamariki and the food we eat daily.

We want all kiwi kids to thrive at everything they set out to achieve in life. With the guidance of our awesome characters, children will be taken on a food adventure, reading interactive stories and completing hands on activities that show where different foods come from, how they are eaten and prepared, why they are good for us and what they taste like.
How it works
We have done all the preparation work for your educators. A couple of 30 minute sessions per month with the children is all that’s required for making this programme achievable for centres long term.
Every month of the one year programme a new set of food resources will be released; below are the foods that will be covered each month. Educators will use the resources with the children and share the learning with their families. Each of the 12 modules includes the following resources plus a professional development video.
We have visited New Zealand growers/farmers and created interactive stories about where each food comes from. Each month you will have access to the new food interactive story, science experiment, cooking recipe and support resources via the ‘Know Me Eat Me’ platform. We will also provide you with a recipe to include in your parent newsletter so parents can see what their child has been learning about and help continue the learning at home.
Food is not supplied with the programme and centres will need to source this themselves. The programme is designed around a small amount of seasonal, readily available ingredients to make it affordable for not only ECEs but also the families of the children taking part.

Testimonials
"Our preschool have really enjoyed doing the Know Me Eat Me programme each month. As teachers we plan a special day for this so that we can be prepared to do all the fun interactive things, each teacher taking charge of an activity for it. The videos are great and the children really learn from plant to plate. As a centre that provides all food and has a set five week menu, often children will bring up weeks later when eating the vegetable or product, they will chat amongst themselves what they have learnt. Feedback from parents has also been great as we have an online portfolio service and do a story once a month on our activity so whanau can see what we have been up too."

“For milk month we decided to find someone who had an animal to milk and one of our families had a goat that they were happy to bring in and milk for us.
We made some fresh cheese yesterday with herbs from our garden and some butter today. The cheese went down a treat and we sent little pats of butter home. Thanks for all the hard work you have put in to developing this programme. We are having a great time.”
